Hamburg, 04.07.2023 – The long-established South German building materials and tile retailer Kemmler Baustoffe, based in Tübingen, will dispatch its fleet of around 120 vehicles from the fourth quarter of 2023 with the opheo transport management system. The plan is for each truck to travel an average of up to four tours per day. In addition, there are numerous tours on a total of seven lines in night-time factory traffic, which ensures the internal supply of the more than 30 own branches. The introductory project already started in February 2023 with a kick-off workshop.
First expansion stage with dispatching, tour optimization, notification and more
In the first expansion stage, Kemmler wants to use opheo to locate its own vehicles, track current shipments and use mobile order management including dispatching and tour optimization. This also includes automatic notification, with the help of which customers are informed about upcoming deliveries. The message is sent automatically as part of the ETA forecasting (Estimated Time of Arrival) as soon as the truck falls below a certain distance from the destination. Construction site customers in particular benefit from prompt notification about an hour before delivery, as they can optimally allocate their personnel and create space based on the information.
Digital delivery note and freight exchange connection
At a later point in time, Kemmler also wants to introduce the digital delivery note developed by opheo Solutions. “Furthermore, we are very much looking forward to the integration of various freight exchanges such as Timocom, in order to be able to control the utilization of our vehicle fleet even better and more efficiently in the near future,” explains Michael Stapf, Digitalization Project Manager at Kemmler Baustoffe Logistik GmbH.
Innovative tour planning with AI and ETA forecasting
opheo is replacing other tour planning software at Kemmler. “opheo Solutions is the right partner for us, bringing all the tools and expertise for contemporary tour planning. The strengths of opheo in the area of shipment tracking, mobile order processing and its developments in the area of artificial intelligence and ETA forecasting are particularly noteworthy. These functions are unique to opheo and were able to convince us,” says Stapf. In addition, they wanted an “innovative product that will continue to be developed permanently in 20 years”.
Telematics system and driver app
Last but not least, Kemmler is reducing the number of its IT interfaces with opheo by also using the integrated telematics system opheo MOBILE. For this purpose, all vehicles are equipped with mobile devices from Samsung. The drivers receive order data and delivery addresses via the telematics app opheo MOBILE installed on them and can be guided to the next destination with the integrated truck navigation. Every shipment status reached is documented at the touch of a button and, like the current position data, is transmitted to the headquarters.
Thorough selection process
The decision for opheo was made after a complex and lengthy selection process. “We carried out extensive utility value analyses and visited various opheo reference customers in Germany and Austria,” reports Stapf. A visit to opheo Solutions in Hamburg was also part of the decision-making process. “It was important to us to make a well-founded decision and ensure that opheo meets our requirements and expectations,” emphasizes the project manager.
